Best Ergonomic Office Chair Under $300: 2026 Buyer's Guide

Bottom line: You don't need to spend $1,000+ on a Herman Miller to save your back. After testing 7 chairs under $300 for 3 months of 8+ hour workdays, the Ticova Ergonomic Chair ($169) is our top pick — but it's not for everyone. Here's the full breakdown.

Why We Tested Budget Chairs

Most office chair reviews push you toward $1,000+ premium brands. That's great if you have the budget, but most people working from home don't. We wanted to find chairs that provide genuine ergonomic support without the premium price tag. The criteria: adjustable lumbar support, seat depth adjustment, breathable mesh back, and a warranty that doesn't feel like a joke.

Our Testing Process

We had 4 testers (ranging from 5'4" to 6'2", 120-230 lbs) use each chair for at least one full work week. We evaluated assembly difficulty, materials quality, adjustability, comfort after 8+ hours, and build quality. After 3 months of daily use, we checked for wear, squeaks, and any failures.

The Results

🏆 Best Overall: Ticova Ergonomic Office Chair ($169)

This was a surprise. The Ticova punches way above its price. The lumbar support is genuinely adjustable (not just a cheap cushion), the headrest is height AND angle adjustable, and the mesh back actually keeps you cool. Assembly took about 25 minutes with the included tools.

What we loved: The lumbar adjustment actually works — you can feel it move up/down and in/out. The seat cushion is thick and didn't flatten after 3 months. The armrests are 3D adjustable (up/down, forward/back, pivot).

What we didn't: The armrests feel slightly cheap compared to the rest of the chair. The headrest creaks a little when you lean back hard.

🥈 Best for Big & Tall: SIHOO M57 ($199)

If you're over 6' or 200+ lbs, the SIHOO M57 is your chair. It's built like a tank and supports up to 330 lbs. The mesh is firmer than the Ticova, which our larger testers preferred. The lumbar support is adjustable but less refined — it's either "a lot" or "even more."

Note: If you're under 5'7", skip this one. The seat depth minimum is too deep and the headrest will hit the top of your head.

🥉 Best Budget Pick: Hbada Ergonomic Chair ($129)

For $129, this is hard to beat. It has adjustable lumbar support and a flip-up armrest design that lets you tuck it under a desk. The catch: the seat cushion is noticeably thinner than the Ticova, and after 3 months our 200-lb tester said it was starting to bottom out. For lighter users or part-time use, it's a great value.

What We'd Avoid

GTRACING "Gaming" Chairs: We tested one ($189) and it's everything wrong with "gaming" chairs. PU leather that gets hot after an hour, a lumbar pillow that constantly slides down, and armrests that wobble within weeks. The bucket seat design actually encourages poor posture. Save your money.

Final Verdict

For most people, the Ticova is the clear winner. It has the best lumbar support, the widest adjustability range, and it held up well after 3 months of heavy use. The SIHOO M57 is the pick for larger users, and the Hbada is a solid budget choice if you're under 180 lbs. Skip the gaming chairs — your back deserves better.

Bought the Ticova after reading this. Assembly was straightforward — the instructions were actually in real English, not translated gibberish. Been using it for 3 days and my lower back pain has noticeably improved. I'm 5'11" 185 lbs and the fit is perfect. The only minor complaint: I wish the seat went just a tiny bit higher. At max height my feet still firmly touch the floor but I like sitting a bit higher. Still, for $169 this feels like I cheated the system.

I've been through 3 "ergonomic" chairs in 4 years and this is the first review that actually mentions seat depth — THANK YOU. I'm 5'4" and most chairs are too deep, leaving me either perching on the edge or having the seat dig into the back of my knees. Question for the reviewer: does the Ticova's seat depth go short enough for shorter people? The specs say 16.5" minimum but sometimes spec sheets lie.

Also +1 on the gaming chair take. I fell for the GTRACING hype 2 years ago and my tailbone still hasn't forgiven me.

Great question Sarah. Our 5'4" tester measured the Ticova at 16.75" minimum seat depth (pretty close to spec). She said it was comfortable but just barely — if you're under 5'3" it might be too deep. The Hbada actually has a shorter minimum seat depth (16") if that's a concern. One thing we forgot to mention: the Ticova's seat has a waterfall edge that helps prevent the knee-digging problem. Hope that helps!

SIHOO M57 owner here for 8 months now. The review is spot on about the lumbar — it's aggressive, not subtle. I actually like it but my wife (5'5" 130lbs) borrowed my chair for a day and said it felt like someone was punching her lower back. Also worth noting: the armrests on the M57 started to get a tiny bit wobbly around month 6. Not falling apart, but not as solid as day 1. Still, for $199 I'd buy it again.

Okay so I got the Hbada because it was the cheapest and I'm cheap. Bad idea. The seat cushion on mine started flattening after about 2 months (I'm 165 lbs). Now it feels like I'm sitting on a piece of plywood wrapped in a thin sweater. Should have listened and gotten the Ticova. The flip-up armrests are cool though — I can actually push the chair all the way under my desk. But what's the point if sitting on it hurts? Lesson learned: don't cheap out on something you use 8+ hours a day.

Just want to add — I bought the "gaming chair" this review warned about before finding this article. Everything they said is true. After 6 months the PU leather is peeling everywhere, the gas cylinder has sunk about 2 inches, and the armrest wobble is so bad I removed them entirely. The only thing it's good for is reminding me to stand up and stretch because it's so uncomfortable. Currently ordering the Ticova. Don't be me.

Question for anyone who's had the Ticova for 6+ months — how's the mesh holding up? I had a $150 mesh chair from Staples (not one reviewed here) and the mesh started sagging around month 8. I weigh 210 lbs so I'm a little nervous about mesh durability. The SIHOO sounds like it might be the safer bet for heavier folks but I like the sound of the Ticova's lumbar adjustment better. Torn between the two.

UPDATE: Appreciate all the replies! Going with the SIHOO for the build quality. Will report back in a few months.
